This movie requires you to suspend belief--over and over again.
Most of the stunts are so outlandish, that I was laughing all through
the movie. That is to say much of what you will see is impossible.
Another factor that is a kick concerns timing. (The following example is not
in the movie.) When Little Nell is tied to the railroad tracks and the
train is barreling down upon her at 40 mph, we see Dudley battling it out with
Snidely Whiplash. The train (40 mph) is only 20 feet from Nell, Dudley is
still fighting Snidely; the train (40 mph) is now only 20 feet from Nell, and
Dudley is STILL fighting Snidely; the train (40 mph) is now a scant 20 feet
from Nell, and Dudley is losing; now the train is barreling down on Nell,
Dudley is still fighting Snidely, it looks bad for Little Nell. Then,
Dudley is victorious over Snidely, he runs the 30 or feet over to Little
Nell and cuts the ropes, saving her from the train (40 mph) which is by now
only 20 feet away and roars by just missing them. This kind of timing is
part of the genre.
I suspect some people will say, "It wasn't very realistic--it was stupid."
If it's realism you want, read National Geographic; it's not perfect but it's
close.
The movie is very very very funny with a lot of fast paced adventure. The
heroine (of course there's a heroine) is hilarious as she expresses her
dislikes and her earnest desires.
I paid $4.50 for this movie and I don't feel cheated. But be forewarned:
IT IS NOT ANOTHER RAIDERS--IT'S MORE FUN AND LESS BELIEVABLE. GO SEE IT!!!!
