No, Bakshi bought the rights to all of The Lord of the Rings
from Disney, who bought the rights from Tolkien, and sat on them
for 15 years, and decided they couldn't do anything with them.
I believe that Bakshi sold the rights to the end of the story
to try to recoup some cash after his big loss on LotR -- part I.
I really wish Disney had done LotR -- I think they would at
least have looked in the back of the book to see how the names
were supposed to be pronounced!
