[comp.sys.apple] IIGS ROM & VGC chip upgrade

g-mccann@GUMBY.WISC.EDU.UUCP (08/12/87)

I got a postcard from Apple in the mail today, offering a *free* VGC upgrade
and ("for any inconvenience you may have experienced") a new IIgs ROM chip.
I called my dealer and found out that they have the chips on order and are
expecting to be able to do the upgrades in about two weeks (I'll believe it
when I see it).

Free upgrades -- that's what we like to see.

I got one too. I ready do like these free upgrade offer! Having owned
an apple since 1977, I beleive this is the first free hardware upgrade
I have received. Now, it's time to call the dealer and get on a waiting
list.

Well, here it is quite a few days later and still no postcard or phone
call from my dealer, whose waiting list I am on...

I noticed recently on Compuserve that at least one person stated that they
had obtained access to quite a document detailing the various changes that
these upgrades provided. Anyone here have it in softcopy - I surely would
like to have it soon.

Also, this evening the sysop on CIS stated that a friend had just received
a new GS and it had the Version 2.0 Prodos System Utility disk. Note tht this
is NOT Prodos 16 v2.0, which will be the intended full capibility mode. But
it IS supposed to have quite a few more toolsets and some more bugs fixed.
