"The Party" shows up on the cable circuits from time to time (most recently on Cinemax, I believe) especially when Peter Sellers film fests are in progress. Another amusing (and infrequently seen) Sellers film is "I Love Alice P. T.", of course. --Lauren--

I would never have remembered "The Party" if not for an unusual circumstance. My father is a Carnegie Tech alumnus (that's what it was when he was there) and even back then, it had an extremely good, extremely active Theater Arts department as well as a huge engineering department. For some reason, the engineers and theater arts majors hung around together a lot (would that the "two cultures" still did - CMU folks, do they still do this?). When I saw "The Party" with my father on first release, he suddenly sat up straight, about a third of the way through the film, and said "Hey! I know that guy! He had hair when I knew him!" Apparently the party guest extras were not really extras, but were the Hollywood crowd of that time (producers, etc.) who would, in fact, normally attend such a party. This fellow was someone my father knew who had gone to Hollywood after graduation and become a producer. My father can testify that it's a real surprise to see someone you know suddenly pop up on the big screen.
