[comp.sys.apple] IIgs speedup card

Well, I've been kicked on every board you can tink of for posting that message
about apple wanting, or trying to buy the card from AE... as far as I know,
that IS still a rumor.

I have to apologize for jumping to conclusions too quickly, because AE is a
superb company and would never give-in to that type of thing, even IF apple
HAD made some sort of offer. Dan Pote is a bit too concerned for that type of
thing.

Also, it would not look too hot in Apple's balance sheets if they had to fork
over a load of money for the rights to the speedup card, so apple's
participation in such a thing is doubtful.

As for FOSSIL DOS, the ProDOS compatible, I'm not sure what happened there...
I followed it up, and I (personally) >THINK< the entire thing >MIGHT< have
happaned, but I'm not sure.

However, it seems that Apple Computer, Inc. >MAY< have cut off communication
with AE >BECAUSE< of the accelerator. The cause of this, I do not know, nor
do I know if it is true. Maybe someone shoudl call Dan Pote and ask him.

I should not have called apple a "bunch of fools," because most of their
decisions to date have been wise, and well thought out. I looked at all my
apple tech manuals for the IIgs, and concluded that if they put that much work
into them, they are certainly >NOT< abandoning the II series in favor of the
mac, they simply want a consistent user-interface to work with.

As for favoring the mac, I believe that apple does tend to favor the mac
because of the way that it is currently positioned in the market. It will
become their bread and butter machine for many years to come, and they NEED to
pat attention to it. If they don't, they stand to loose a lot of business
customers, where they are making their major inroads right now.

Lots of stuff going on, look for~k some interesting stufGA|[o{f at applefest

Perhaps you havent talked to a lot of the Apple GS techies, but the ones
that I have talked to electronically WANT a GS speedup card. If Apple and
Applied Engineering are at odds, my personal, off the record guess would be
that it was over the GS-Ram card, which attempts to use more than 4 banks
of memory chips in a way that makes it incompatible with almost all other
DMA based hardware (except of course Appl. Enginn.). I believe that I
remember some nasty comments when this was first discovered with the digitizer...

Anyway, take this with how ever much salt that you wish...
