[comp.sys.apple] Statistical package recommendations?

halp@TCGOULD.TN.CORNELL.EDU ("Bruce P. Halpern") (09/11/87)

Kinko's Copies Academic Courseware Exchange (4141 State St., Santa Barbara,
CA 93110 tel: 800-235-6919 [in CA 800-292-6640) sells at least two Apple ][
statistical systems. One is a set of AppleWorks statistical templates that
originally appeared as a series of articles in _Call A.P.P.L.E._. This set
consists of copies of the articles, plus all the templates on 5.25 " disk.

The second is "Statistical Processing System S.P.S." developed by F.
Buyhoff, et al., North Carolina State U. It may also be available from NCSU
Software, Box 8101, Raleigh NC 27695. 919-737-3067, which may be the current
copyright owner. This system consists of two 5.25" disks and a 107 page
(typed) manual.

I haven't tried S.P.S. at all. We have been using statistical templates
with AppleWorks for sometime now. Combined with macros (Beagle Bros.
SuperMacroworks) and sufficient memory (3 Meg [A.E. RamWorks II with 2 Meg
piggyback board) and speed (A.E. Transwarp), this works well. When possible,
we obtain data in a format that is directly compatable with AppleWorks
spreadsheet format.

I don't have a Kinko's catalog handy. However, prices for each item were in
the $20 to $35 range.

****DISCLAMER: My comments, etc., are my own shakey opinions ********
