[comp.sys.apple] Kermit 3.78

SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET (08/21/87)

A "hexified" version (one that can be downloaded in character
mode and EXEC'd) of Kermit 3.78 (including a driver for the IIgs
smartport) is available from LISTSERV@BROWNVM.bitnet. I've
posted messages detailing how to get the files twice in the last
week (neither of which has been sent back to me on bitnet, but
sometimes it takes a week or more for comp.sys.apple postings
to wander across the gateway and cascade along bitmail distribution).

The short answer is: send email to LISTSERV@BROWNVM.bitnet with
a one line message: SENDME NOTEBOOK FILELIST

That command should return an annotated list of available files.
The ones you want are filed under APPLE2-L 87-nnnnn (where nnnnn is
a file number.

You'll have to send a series of messages to get the Kermit files.
Each should have a body of 1 line in the form:

SENDME APPLE2-L 87-nnnnn

For instance, if I remember accurately,

SENDME APPLE2-L 87-00028 should retrieve a memo with instructions for
installing Kermit 3.78 (which works under EITHER DOS 3.3 OR ProDOS and
does a VT-100 <more or less> emulation).

You also may find sending the following worthwhile:

SUBSCRIBE APPLE2-L your_first_name your_last_name

Is there anyway to get a copy of the new kermit?? I think its version
3.78. Please reply to me directly thru E-mail. I'm sure the others have seen enough of these messages.

The Kermit 3.78 files (including a driver for the IIgs smartport)
were posted to APPLE2-L awhile back. I don't have a IIgs, but as
far as I know the driver works (I believe several contributors to
info-apple actually use it).

You can get the files from the LISTSERV@BROWNVM by using the SEND
command (I don't use a VAX either, so I'm not a good source for
the syntax of the send command). You want to send an immediate
message (CMD) to LISTSERV@BROWNVM that says:

GET NOTEBOOK FILELIST

That'll get you a listing of the files available from that server.
Look for the files that are APPLE2-L 87-nnnnn for the ones labeled
Kermit 3.78 (there are 6 or seven of them including drivers for
Super Serial Cards, Microtek 622C, and Apple Com Card, plus documenation
and installation instructions). You can get the ones you need with:

GET APPLE2-L 87-nnnnn (where nnnnn is the number of the file, as in
    APPLE2-L 87-00024)

If your system doesn't permit the use of the SEND command to the network,
you can put the GET commands in email and send it to LISTSERV@BROWNVM

(NOTE!!! DO NOT send GET requests to APPLE2-L as messages addressed to
the list simply get posted as files and you won't get anything back)
