[comp.sys.apple] Program files

SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET (07/27/87)

It would be a good idea to use the 4byte encrypting of the
Executioner at least. The more compact you can make files the
less the load on the system.

As it happens, I have DISKWORKS and maybe a megabyte or so of
similarly useful things. I think it would be better if you'd
put up a list of what you have and see how many people want it.
If it's only one or two it would make more sense to mail direct.
(I also have docs for DISKWORKS; if you want 'em just ask).

As you are on bitnet, you missed most of info-apple for about
10 days including my offer to send the Chameleon (a utility for
copying files to and from Pascal and CP/M disks as well as
DOS and ProDOS (and SOS). Because the program, as a text file,
and the documentation add up to about 70K I think it inefficient
to just post it. It's not something everyone needs. So far,
I've had only one request for it.

Now, if someone has a version of EXECUTIONER patched to start
encoded lines with a character other than '.' (period), that
could be worth posting.

As much as I like seeing my shareware (Talk is Cheap etc) distributed around I
thought that the group had come to a consensus that there would be a special
email address to be used for distributing software over usenet so as to avoid
sending these 50K+ files to hundreds of people who have no use for the files
and who might not appreciate paying phone bills etc to route these things
around the world.

What happened to the program mailing list? Does it still exist? Why did my
mailbox have so much stuff in it that I already have and don't need and don't
like paying to get?
