[comp.sys.apple] Use APPLE2-L

SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET (09/22/87)

Don -

I'm never sure whether mail gets through to you; aside from the usual
vagaries of UUCP, our MAILER has been most peculiar since the latest
attempt at an update 8-(

I hope we can solve the problem of large unwanted files by encouraging
everyone to post programs to APPLE2-L@BROWNVM.bitnet with a (brief)
message to comp.sys.apple (aka info-apple) describing what's been posted.
Anyone who wants the files can subscribe to APPLE2-L (if the SUBSCRIBE
command is sent to LISTSERV@BROWNVM -- sending requests to APPLE2-L is
chancy as it could be DAYS before Chris notices the mis-sent command and
has time to manually enter it correctly) OR send separate commands to
get files they need.

UUCP users CAN subscribe to APPLE2-L and get files as they come in.
Getting selected files by command from UUCP nodes is chancier (it
depends on whether the "robot" server computes a working reply address).
Anyone who can't get the server to respond to requests for individual
files AND who hasn't the disk space to subscribe to the list probably can
find a friend (on bitnet or elsewhere) who can retrieve occassional files
from time to time and pass them along.

Perhaps, you could beat some of the enthusiasts to the punch and post
some of your more popular software to APPLE2-L yourself (on the theory,
that if you've already posted it where it belongs, others will be less
inclined to post it where it doesn't)?
