On an Apple IIGS, you might buy or create a font to put into the appropriate folder on the system disk, where it would be accessed by word processing programs that use SHRG rather than the character generator (e.g. Multiscribe). In the US, there is a Hebrew Users' Group, 2736 Bancroft Way, Berkeley, CA 94704. It deals with Hebrew word processing on various machines. They send out a newsletter every few months. Dues of $7.50 (US) or $10 (overseas) can be sent to the above address with checks made out to the Berkeley Hillel Foundation. There is a company in Chicago, Davka, 845 N. Michigan Ave, Suite 843, Chicago, IL 60611, which specializes in Judaic and Hebrew software. It has adapted several word processors (Applewriter, Appleworks, Multiscribe, Screenwriter) for Hebrew-English operation. A friend of mine picked up a version of a Hebrew Finder for the Mac last year, but it was buggy and I couldn't get it to work with Microsoft Works (the only word processor I have for the Mac). Does anyone know of a cheap way of getting Hebrew (in the right direction) on the Mac? (The Finder was in the public domain and free.)
