Have we created too many options and addresses? It seems we are getting tangled in our own nets. comp.sys.apple is ALSO info-apple@brl.arpa (which is distributed to bitnet readers who subscribe to INFO-APP - but other than subscribing, mail/queries etc. should NOT go to NDSUVM1). APPLE2-L is ANOTHER (separate, different) list. There is a considerable overlap (but NOT one-to-one) in readers because the APPLE2-L list is for files (and documentation). Some readers of info-apple (comp.sys.apple) deliberately don't subscribe to APPLE2-L because they don't want to receive LARGE files (at least not routinely). Hence, if you post to APPLE2-L, it's a nice gesture if you send a (brief) message to comp.sys.apple (bitnet readers NOTE: the proper address is to: info-apple@brl.arpa) describing what you posted so that folks who don't routinely get APPLE2-L files can request selected programs they may decide they want. The proper address to post a program to APPLE2-L (you've succeeded in doing it several times, but don't forget and send to the wrong address or you'll post "into the void") is: APPLE2-L@BROWNVM.bitnet (or APPLE2-L%BROWNVM.bitnet@wiscvm.wisc.edu) To subscribe, unsubscribe (also known as "signoff"), or send commands such as INDEX APPLE2-L or GET APPLE2-L 87-nnnnn, the proper address is: LISTSERV@BROWNVM.bitnet (etc.) I find it astonishing how much misdirected mail there's been over the summer, but I guess that all those addresses for various things are confusing for beginners, BUT once you get it right, don't lose track (set up an "alias" file, or whatever your system calls it). We seem to need a note similar to this one nearly weekly just to keep the number of misdirected messages down to only 2 or 3 a day. --------------------- ARPA: sewall%uconnvm.bitnet@wiscvm.wisc.edu Murphy A.
