[comp.sys.apple] UUCP to bitnet

SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET (10/20/87)

UUCP continues to entertain ("Address, address, whose got the
address"). Usually it is I who can't get mail through to UUCP
addresses. Chris Chung has found that he can send mail to
addresses that have messages from his APPLE2-L bounced (now
that IS weird).

Generally, it is much easier to get mail from UUCP sites onto
bitnet than vice-versa. You have sent me mail in the past (who
knows who changed what or which node went down). It appears that
your messages route through ucbvax rather than psuvax1 -- perhaps
your local postmaster can help you identify the alternate gateways
to bitnet and you can find the one that works (today). It seems
every time I see something from Patt Haring, it comes through a
different gate (I don't know whether she does that on purpose, but
if she does, possibly she can help you find a path that works).

Unfortunately, as long as UUCP remains so fickle, APPLE2-L isn't
going to be a reliable source of software for many readers of
comp.sys.apple whose only node is on that net.

Murphy,
I don't address mail to you any differently when I send it; it
always gets addresssed to SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET and our mailer
does the routing. Would it matter who was polling us? Would
that change the mailpaths to you?
Here's some info on our site:

This is a reminder to the members of the Sysops' Mailing List that
the list does in fact still exist. It's been very quite as of late, even
though people are signing up at a fairly continuous rate.

(actually, I have ulterior motives in sending this letter: I want to see
which messages bounce...)

If you have anything to say relating to the operation of BBSes, don't
fail to send it off to sysops@dasys1.

Enclosed is the most recent UUCP map data for 'dasys1', in case your
site is using older data. Use of this map entry will help ensure the
safe arrival of your submissions to the list.
