[comp.sys.apple] problems with executioner files

i downloaded a few of the executioner encoded files from the file
server and then 'exec'd them. everything seemed to go fine, but upon
executing them, i drop into the monitor. there appears to be garbage
at $1000 (there is garbage there) where execution is supposed to
begin. In fact, i can't seem to find any executable code in the area
of memory in which the program resides. Am I missing something
fundamental here? I'm running a //c with prodos 8 and using kermit
for file transfers. Any help would be greatly appreciated. thanks

Try changing the file type parameter or the beginning memory location.
I've found that many of the programs from the listserv (or executioner
in general I suppose) will not run after they are exec'ed. Often time
the problem is a matter of just changing the beginning address of the
file from $1000 to $2000 or visa-versa. Just look at a complete CATALOG
to see what it is presently. Other times it is a matter of changing the
file type from BIN to SYS. Apparently executioner goofs up a little
when packing a file (or perhaps the translation gets lost in transfer).
Anyways, there is a nice little program on the listserv called Change
File Type which will help you in doing these changes. Luckily, it execs
just swell.
