In response to Shane McCarron's reply regarding Apple 3.5" disk formatting, yes the sectors on the 3.5" mac disks are 524(I think), not 512 like the Apple Disk IIs 5.25s (actually, this format is two seperate 256K sectors pasted together in software). These extra bytes are known as the "Tag Bytes", and they were created for the purpose of file retrieval on Mac disks. These bytes also exist on all Apple II 3.5" disks, but the 12 or so extra bytes on this format are left blank. These bytes are sometimes on hard disks, but whether the manufacturer supports tag bytes varies. --Richard Ewing Trinity College Apple ][/Mac Consultant
