Two weeks ago, I posted a request for information about any C compilers for the IIgs other than APW C. I received two replies (from Larry Virden and Dave Lyons). Neither of them knew of any other C compilers currently in existence. The seems to be a pattern here. Remember how long it took to get other word processors for the Mac? Blame was placed on Apple for having MacWrite available. Apple hasn't released a Pascal compiler for the IIgs, and we have two (maybe three) third-party Pascals. Apple did release a C compiler, and no one else has. Were they all scared off? Or don't they think the gs market demand for a second C compiler is there? I find this to be quite discouraging. About two months ago I queried ByteWorks (make of APW shell and Orca Pascal) about their plans (if any) of entering the GS 'C' compiler arena. I have been most impressed with the quality of their software and support. The response to my question was that they have no plans for a C compiler. If I understood the explanation, it was that they had looked at APW C and, although it has some problems, it was a fairly good implementation. The main area that needed cleaned up was some of APW C libraries. I am not sure I agree. Although I have APW C (and other Pascal compilers), I find I stay with Orca Pascal and assembly language. My overall impression is that APW C is nothing more than a good heuristic. Does anyone care to comment on my impression? Bud
