They will not copy the 5.25" version <> of AppleWorks correctly. What concensus has lead people to believe that Copy ][+ or Locksmith wil NOT copy the unprotected 5.25 version of Appleworks? These are programs that take the total track image (in fast copy modes) and read it, verify it (three times, take the two that match) and then write the image to disk. How can you say that they do not copy it write? I remember when I first got Appleworks, if I didn't have Copy ][+ 4.something back then, I would have been highly upset at Apple, because no one in our user group could get the Apple System disk filer to copy Appleworks correctly! Doing a whole volume copy with the filer produced a disk that has incorrect block assignments and a couple of other horrid things. Copy ][+ has never failed me, and is a lot better utility than anything that Apple, itself, has ever put out. Locksmith, although I don't use it, is an excellent copier that I have never heard bad things of. ON the other hand, Apple's filer is junk. Oh yeah, admittedly, there might be a problem with Disk Muncher, but that is because it doesn't verify a track's address markers (I believe). Ealier versions of AppleWorks (1.2 or so) needed more storage space on the program side than it is available on a disk ][. This was "fixed" by using the boot blocks making it impossible to back up file by file to another 5.25" disk yielding a working version. Of course, every disk copy program could duplicate the whole side at once without any problems (no protection). Matthias Kapffer <MAT6013@DMZRZU71.BITNET>
