It was yesterday, over the Hunan Beef and Kung Pao Chicken, that we we're wondering, just HOW much does it cost to produce a distribution copy of a 70mm film like Star Trek III or Temple of Doom? We we're also wondering about the logitics of the distribution itself. At our local theater, Temple of Doom is playing on 3 screens at 1/2 hour intervals while Star Trek is only playing on 2 screens at 45 min intervals. Are we witnessing judicious use of single copies, or are multiple copies in use here? Last night's news declared Star Trek is outgrossing Temple of Doom and that there are more copies of ST than TOD. The question is, what effects do the number of available copies have upon the gross receipts for a given film?
