Indeed, unless you can borrow an old Kermit program from someone, it is a true puzzle how to get a copy of the new one. I happen to know that PSUVM runs the Yale ASCII communications system just like we do. I assume you can get ahold of some Apple comm program that has a "capture buffer" (I hope a large one). If you have that, here's how you (and anyone else in the same position) can get a working Kermit -- Use the editor to "put" parts 2 and 3 of Ted's 3.80 post to APPLE2-L into from CALL-151 to the end into CMS files (PART1 MEMO D and PART2 MEMO D, for instance). logon with a comm program. (If you don't have one that does a terminal emulation, use TYPETERM in response to the terminal type: query) -- or use vt100 and put up with the fact that the screen is mostly illegible junk. Turn your capture buffer on and issue the CMS command: TPRINT PART1 MEMO D when TPRINT is finished, close the capture buffer, change the buffer file name, turn the buffer back on and TPRINT PART2 MEMO D The files you'll capture will have some "garbage" lines at the beginning and end and a linefeed (control-J) character at the beginning of every line (use Appleworks or a word processor to "clean the files up"). Transfer the nice cleaned up text files to DOS 3.3 and give them the names KER380.1 and KER380.2. then EXEC KER380.1,R25 <-- the ,R25 IS important). I recommend using an on campus phone to do the capture if possible because any "extra" characters from the phone line will mess up the Kermit program you get. I also recommend you use the Kermit program you make to download the files a second time and use those to make the program again just to be as sure as you can that you get a bug free copy. --------------------- ARPA: sewall%uconnvm.bitnet@cunyvm.cuny.edu Murphy A. This is a recurring problem for those new to Kermit.
I will copy Kermit "exec-able" program files and the
documentation onto DOS 3.3 disks and mail them in a
dependable mailer to anyone who sends me $3.00 and
their USMail address. I figure that this will cover
my disk and mailer cost and buy me a couple of beers
to drink while doing the copying.
Merry Christmas to all,
