[comp.sys.apple] Davex and ECP16

Having looked at Davex and ECP, I have a question. Supposedly the purpose of
these is to provide a command-based shell that is smaller and more efficient
than the finder.  The finder, though, isn't what takes up all the disk space;
it's the system folder, and desk accessories, and other things that as far as
I can tell have to be on the disk anyway, even when you replace the finder.
In fact, when all the help files are installed, there is less free space. Am
I mistaken in assuming I still need the system folder (and most of it's files)
on the disk for use with P16 applications? I'd be willing to switch to one of
these, and pay for it, if they would save enough disk space to be worth it, but
I can't see how they would. Can someone explain it to me?
