[comp.sys.apple] CMS HardDrives

Tnx for your comments on the CMS drive. Do I gather from what you say
that it is noticebly faster than the Sider? (you didn't say so
explicitly, but thats what I think you meant.) I gather also that you
bought it direct from CMS; any comments from anyone on the dangers of
buying something that expensive by mail rather than from a local dealer
whom in principle at least has an obligation to keep you happy and
provide service? (I guess there are two parts to the answer to that:
mail order could either be direct from the manufacturer or from one of
the discount places that advertize in the mags.)

You're welcome...

Sorry, guess I left out a few things there. Yes it is considerably faster
than the Sider ][, but Sider now has a chip that allows the old Siders and
Sider ][s to operate at a considerably faster rate, so I could not honestly
tell you just what the difference in speeds is at this time, since I still
have the old Sider ][ hard drive, and not a new one.

I may get flamed for this but I don't care since a good flame helps your
opinions every now and then.

You or anyone else that buys a harddrive or any major piece of equipment from
a mail order service that is NOT in-STATE is a fool as far as I am concerned.
This opinion of mine has been fostered from living in Japan for three years
and being screwed over royally by a _number_ of so-called mail order houses.
(Please note this is my opinion and not that of any of my employers, even
though they have been screwed over by mail-order, also!) I bought the hard
drive through the Heath/Zenith store, adn highly recommend them versus any
other for prices (at least in Hawaii). The people at (excuse my profanity)
Computerland/Hawaii have some wierd ideas about selling computers to home
users, so I got lucky. Check Heath/Zenith if there is one near you, as they
are authorized dealers for CMS hard drives. (Please note, I am in no way
associate with Heath/Zenith, other than the fact that I really like and
appreciate the way the guys here in Hawaii seem to care about their customers
after the buck has been passed!)

P.S. DOCKMASTER I see that you also emailed me a copy of this but I never
received it. Could be that our lines don't connect. Please try again.

I bought my Mac drive direct from them and have had no problem at all.
They've been very helpful over the phone, and very quick about dealing with
problems (and none of the problems were their fault either, mainly Mac ][
program disasters).
