Jeremy Mereness asks: >Why is it necessary that the only interface between the user and ProDOS 16 is >the Finder? Who said it was? Long before the Finder was released there were alternative ProDOS 16 based text shells. You can buy the Apple Programmer's Workshop from Apple ($100 including assembler, linker, editor and shell), ORCA/M for the IIgs from Byte Works ($70 including same as APW), or ECP16 (Extended Command Processor 16) from me for $40 (shareware) that includes just the shell but adds function keys and is memory resident as opposed to the others which are larger, disk based, no fkeys, and are designed primarily for development work. ECP16 can be found on BBS's, pay services like CIS, or you can get it direct from me at: 3207 Berkeley Forest Drive Columbia, SC 29209-4111.
