There are already fifty or more Apple BBSs nationwide that use the USR 9600 baud modem. I will post the list of these systems here if you wish. There is presently an upgrade kit from US Robotics that allows your HST to increase to 17,400 baud!! And INCOM, the company that produces the modems for USR, is I take that back... they came up with the protocol that the HST uses. Well, they are now going to produce their own modems that are capable of going full 19,200 baud over standard voice lines. I don't know about you guys, but I'm completely amazed at the rapid increase in modem speed over the past year or so! The INCOM modem will, of course, be comopletely compatible with the USR modem. You can't lose... USR offers to upgrade/change the hardware in their modems if they don't get the CCITT standard. You would merely have to return the modem for a free "swap." I hope they get it myself. It really works! If you've seen one in action, you know what I mean! Have fun... mark
