The HSTs are hard to beat for the money. They are currently shipping the high-throughput (17 Kb) versions of the standalone and are just about ready with the rackmount versions. If you don't mind a bit of delay from the 300 baud side they work really well over bad phone lines and can be purchased from some distributors for as "little" as $630... Of interest to those (like ourselves) interested in preserving some guarantee of investment when a standard is established, USR and Hayes recently signed a 3-year cross technology agreement to share there modem technology and protocols. Hayes will be getting to use the USR protocol for free and so on... Put those two companies together and people like Telebit (a bit "non-standard" although not bad) will have a tough time of it... Just a few thoughts on the subject from an experienced USR user and tester... Mark
