I've got a problem. I own a gs, a real live SSC, and an Apple 1200 baud modem (the older model that fits under a phone). This modem works fine connected to the SSC via the cable provided with the modem by Apple, and that's allowed me to use Apple Access // on my gs. So far, so good. The problem comes in when I tried to connect my modem to the gs serial port. The Apple 1200 baud modem, like many Apple accessories, has an RS-232 connector of a non-standard configuration (9 pins (I think) instead of 25), so a straight gs.port-to-std.RS232.plug cable won't do the trick for me. My Apple dealer checked AppleLink and sold me a short cable that connects the gs serial port to the end of the modem cable. All I can say about that set up is that all the plugs fit -- I've never been able to get that set-up to work with any of the comm programs that use the gs port, and I've tried TIC, Freeterm, and Kermit. Question: Has anyone out there successfully connected an Apple 1200 baud modem to the gs serial port? Does anyone know of anyone who has done this? If so, I would really, really, really like to get in touch with them. (As Don Elton points out, I *can't* be the only one with this problem.) Thanks for your help.
