I ran up my phone bill a bit yesterday and called Zip Technologies in California. Yes, I know it's toll-free, but after speaking with the receptionist I called Technical Support and spoke with a technician (not a toll free call!) Here's what he told me, paraphrased: 'We're going to begin shipment of the first batch of chips within seven to ten days. The reason for the long delay? Before we began marketing the Zip Chip we were a Research and Development firm. Hence, this is all new to us. We don't have the facilities to produce the chips ourselves, so we contracted out to third parties. Again, since this is all new and it is also new technologies, it took them a while to begin producing the final product.' Sounds plausible, but I'm still going to wait until the chips begin shipping before I order one. Mike Yellin BITNET: Sparks@DRYCAS ARPA: MY0L@Andrew.cmu.edu
