I am helping a Graduate student transfer files from an Apple //C to an IMB AT. The transfers are fine using null modem but the probem is in the files themselves. He has over fifty disks with approximately 24 files per disk. To make things worse the files are in ProntoDos. I have no problem using wildcard to xfer from the mainframe to //C but have found no way to use them in going from the Apple to the AT. Does anyone have any suggestions? I also own Point to Point and Modemworks. PTP has the capability to send groups of files but I don't know how it would interact with the AT and besides it only works with PRODOS. I can to put a program together which combines all of the files per disk into one big text file but this means manually breaking them apart on the AT as I don't program in MS-DOS yet. Does anyone have any suggesti ons? Considering the nature of the data (an ongoing oil-exploration project) and the time involved we would even be willing to buy a different product if it would help. The problem is that the student is required to use an AT now but neither of us are familiar with MS-DOS software. It was like a 3 stooges movie just to get the Kermit xfer working :-). Re: Grad student trying to transfer files from a ][c to an AT (Prontodos) Bob, I am not familiar with prontodos but you did mention that an ASCII file could be made. I would suggest a Word Processor for the AT by the name of Xywrite. When the ascii files get to the AT, (even if they were one large file) Xywrite could pull the big file up into a window and clip data into another window and then write the portion of the file to the ibm under a new filename. This pgm is a top line word processor and all that is required of you to do, to perform your moves, is a couple of function keypresses and adding a new filename. (E-Mail me a better address, I can't get to you direct.) -------
