[comp.sys.apple] New GS Resolution mode???

sector@pro-exchange.cts.COM (Roby Sherman) (02/13/88)

I've recently looked at a few programs written by John Brooks.. These programs
boast a "3200 conversion and display routine" that appears to give the GS 32
colors (or more?) on screen at the same time.. Has anyone figured out what
this guy is doing? Whatever it is, do you think it could be put to a pratical
use? (Graphics programs, games, etc.)

Oh..

What's even weirder about John's routines is that it seems to be similar to
the Double Hi-res mode on the //e's, by mixing two images together.. When I
went into the Control Panel, the picture went crazy, and once I exited the
Control Panel, it took about 1 second for the picture to revert back to the
"3200" mode..

DOES ANYONE HAVE ANY IDEA!?!?!?!?!?!?

Thanks...

The II GS has a little-used (so far) feature. There can be up to 16 palletes
for each Super-Hires Screen. In 320 mode, you can have 16 colors per pallette.

Each line on the screen can use any of the 16 pallettes, giving the possibility
of 256 colors on the screen at any on time, but only 16 on any one of the 200
vertical rasters.

Perhaps this is what is being used?
