[comp.sys.apple] IIGS and DISK II

delaney@wnre.aecl.CDN (Grant Delaney) (02/17/88)

The adaptor (which by the way will also allow a disk II to be attached to a //c)
Will allow ONE disk II to be diasy chained to the last disk on the daisy chain
in my case its on a second 3.5. The drive appears a slot 6 drive 1. If you
want 2 drives go to an internal card that's the only way the Disk II doesn't
have the smarts necessary to allow the diasy chaining of a second drive. If
you have 2 drive you most likely have the card anyway and other wise most of
the suppliers of the adaptor cables have inexpensive controller cards.

Sorry but IT IS POSSIBLE TO USE 2 DISK II DRIVES ON THE IIGS smartport
without a controller card. I have a friend who has been doing so for 2
months using a device from a company called Computers Plus in Arizona(see
InCider or A+ for their ad and phone number). Cost: $39.95.

Note: I TRIED to stay out of this - I dont have the doggone company name!

There is at LEAST one company, perhaps more, which markets this neat cable
for Disk II's. It is a SINGLE daisy chain plug which is then split off
into TWO Disk II cables. It is set up so that both Disk IIs look as if they
were daisy chained off the 3.5 inch disk. Look thru A+ or Nibble's 'classified'
ads for cable companies and look for one in the south east (carolinas or georgia
perhaps?) Give them a call and tell them what you want - I think that they
sometimes mention this cable in their ads - but if they make custom cables they
can make what you want anyways.
