[comp.sys.apple] Installing Kermit 3.81

jon@cisunx.UUCP (Jon M. Pearsall) (03/27/88)

Has anyone gotten a copy of the easy install files for the new
Kermit 3.81 to work? I fixed the carriage return line of file #2 and
converted both over to a DOS 3.3 disk. I can't seem to get them to exec,
though.
The first error occurs early on in the execing of KER381.1 when
the loaded basic program is checking for the existance of the needed files
to continue. It runs into an error during the VERIFY statement. The disk
drive keeps whirring forever and chatters as if it's looking for something.
I attributed this to the ONERR statement which just says RESUME if it can't
identify the error. This would put it in an infinite loop. I can see no error
though, as both needed files are there (KER381.1 and KER381.2). I figured,
"no problem, just kill that line." I did that and the first file completed
execed, creating all of the card drivers, etc.
All continues to go well until about the end of the execing of file #2.
Once again the disk drive hangs up and just keeps chattering away as if it's
lost or something. I think this is happening during the save of the main
Kermit program; but I'm not sure. It's definitely very near the end of file
#2, though. I tried various other things and nothing seems to work.
BTW, I was never able to get version 3.80 to exec either. Same
problems. I've never had problems with any of the other versions though. I'm
currently using 3.79.
Any ideas? Anyone else have this problem? I have an enhanced //e
and I remember a message a while back here about a problem with getting the
easy install routines to work for a //e during the developement of this
version. Is this related? Anyone have a 3.81 version configured for a
Super Serial Card that they can run through executioner and mail to me?

Thanks for listening to my whining,
and try to have a nice day.
