[comp.sys.apple] several responses

The appropriate type of connector for making ADB splitters, if anyone cares
are available (in both sexes) from Jameco Electronics.

Apple sells a backup program for hard drives called Backup II. However,
it crashes under newer versions of prodos 8, so do the following before
using it. This fixes it so it follows Apple's _OWN_ protocol for making
language calls (this is from _Open-Apple_ 4.19a) so modify Backup II by
looking for a JSR $BFB7 in the first few pages of the program and change it
to JSR $BF00

I have no idea where you can get this program. If you have to get it from
your apple dealer, you have my sympathy and I wish you luck.

Anybody so paranoid about a virus (viruses is the proper plural form, by the
way) that s/he needs source code should just buy a good disassembler and
generate their own source code. It's not that tough to find stuff that should
not be there, particularly in things like desk accessories (most of which
don't do disk access anyway) Even if source code were posted, many people
wouldn't be able to make sense out of it anyway. Has anybody actually _seen_
a virus for the apple? I mean acually had one on one of his/her disk, not
just heard of it? (Please don't post replies to those questions to the net,
e-mail to me, I'm just curious, and I'm tired of seeing a hoard of virus
messages everytime I log on.)
