It's a simple-minded word processing program The most recent versions of the Bank Street Writer are not as simple-minded as the old 40 column version was; heck, now there's even a spelling checker. My children have been typing their assignments with the Bank Street Writer since 4th grade. One real asset of the program is that it's not too complicated for first and second grade students to learn how to use (though my daughters didn't express any real interest in it at that age). I didn't mention a word processor because I didn't think it very useful in a classroom environment (which probably isn't the best place for composing). Perhaps I'm wrong about that. What about LogoWriter (for which there is a "bulk" purchase deal for schools that permits students to have personal disks to take home)? My wife teaches fourth grade and is the Apple II "Wizard" at her school where they have a 10 station "network" of Apple IIe machines. As soon as her kids have a little keyboard skill, she teaches them Bank Street Writer because she feels that "know one and you can learn 'em all" and that what the kids need to know about computers is what they can do for them. Yeah, you're right about the new Bank Street. Next think you know, they'll have to call it "Bank Word Street" or something. _Brint
