#N:ism70:13100018:000:1033 ism70!dianeh Jun 14 17:34:00 1984 <Ready when you are, C.B.> Since I've seen this acronym used a couple of times in net.movies and in net.sf-lovers, I thought I should tell you that when you praise a movie's SFX you're praising its SOUND EFFECTS. That's what SFX stands for -- not SPECIAL EFFECTS. Those of you who actually sat through the credits for "...Temple of Doom" may have noticed (multitudinous) credits for SFX -- those were sound people not effects people. (Think about it for a minute, what was the big new thing for "...Temple"...that's right, sound! That's why they needed so many people. Do you have any idea what it took to get the swishing sound of Willy's sequined dress? Now *that's* great SFX. Of course, maybe you really were giving good marks for the sound effects, but I somehow doubt it. Anyway, just thought I should let you know. Now to find out who's *really* in the know...how many of you know what MOS stands for and where it came from? (And, no, it doesn't have anything to do with net.singles!) But in the early days of "talkies" he wanted to shoot a film "Mit out sound". Therefore whenever a shot has no sound it is said to be done "MOS".
