[comp.sys.apple] New Prodos 16

lwv@n8emr.UUCP (Larry W. Virden) (04/13/88)

Just got my new APDA catalog last nite - sure wasnt much new for the IIgs
in there - a few books was about all. The one thing that DID catch my eye,
and caused me to be very grouchy, was that Apple has updated Prodos 16, but
is still calling the system disk 3.1. The new prodos 16 has I believe 3 or
4 new system calls, adds several new features with these calls (no, I dont
remember the details and the catalog is at home - I am sure SOMEONE will
tell us the specifics) and has been available for a week or so.

APDA also raised the cost for the package a $1 to cover the additional 20 or so
pages of doc that are now in the package. I did NOT see any possibility of
getting just the new PD16 and new pages though.

The way I read the catalog, the system disk is exactly the same; only the
documentation has changed. All the new ProDOS 16 calls should be included
with existing system 3.1 disks...we just don't know how to invoke them!

Perhaps someones who buys the new disk/documentation (or has another source
of information) could post a summary of the new calls on the net. I hope
Apple includes this documentation with the next version of the system disk;
I bought a 3.1 disk in January and won't buy the same thing again!

On the Prodos 8 and 16 V1.5,

Glen Bredon (of Prosel Fame) mentioned having a V1.5b of Prodos 8 (which I
think was shipped with a few Prosel packages). He went back to 1.4 after
finding bugs in 1.5b. There was no mention of a new P16 in his message (this
was on GEnie). Hope this helps...
