[comp.sys.apple] TEXT EDITORS

You might check into WordPerfect for the IIe/IIc and IIGs. Wordperfect
is a very flexible word processor on the PC's, but I have not seen it on
a II. I imagine that it would contain saving to ASCII file since so also
does the PC version.

Indeed WordPerfect version 1.1 for the //e and //c has a text in
and text out feature which is easy to access. (I believe that
version 2.0 for the GS does as well.) I've been using 1.1 for several
months and, while it isn't the fastest word processor, it is the one
I seem to boot most often. (The MS-DOS version is my program of
choice for the IBM.)

in fact word perfect for the apple //e & //c is a port of the pc version.
it is possible to 'print' to a ascii file (including all printer cmds) or
save the (wp)file as a ascii file to disk by pressing <closed-apple><=><4>
hope thats enough info.

greetings

I know I am being picky, but WordPerfect has not been "ported" for the pc.
WordPerfect is written in machine language, allowing it to use a computer
very efficently. It is really imposible to port a program from 8088 to 6502.
They had to start pretty much from scratch.

sorry about me being picky :-) but there is an acknowledgement sheet right
after page 44 of the 'getting started' section in the WP manual, that says:
"WordPerfect for the Apple //e and //c was translated and adapted from the
IBM and Data General versions by [...great fellows...:-]"
they used ORCA/M ProDOS.

DSEAH@WPI.BITNET (04/27/88)

I am looking for a text editor that doesn't load in the entire file
to edit. Like the way WordStar used to do it in CP/M. You were limited only
by disk space. Anyone have a handle on something like this for ProDOS?
