I didn't like the movie either. I was very disappointed. The movie was not very well put together. The dialog was okay but the continuity was terrible. I didn't think they spent any time on the movie except in making the critters. The critters were great. I just can't find the horrible violence and the humor compatible. I had to either be shocked at the deaths or laugh at the pranks. It just wouldn't let me feel with the movie. I guess the worst crime of all was all the potential of the premise was thrown away on poor writing and shooting. Maybe as an earlier note commented, they wanted the unreal look, but for me it looked fake and cheap. WHat went wrong Speilburg? summary: disappointing collection of humor and violence strung together on poor writing. entertainment value: $.75 -Robert (I liked E. T.) Heckendorn

Gremlins: simply dreadful Q: Is it a kiddie film? A: no Q: Is it a film for adults, then? A: no! Q: Is it a film for anybody at all? A: no no no!!! Just *who* would this atrocity appeal to, anyway? Is Spielberg trying to aim for the kids with his destruction of a town and many deaths (all sanitized for your protection)? Is he perhaps trying to aim for the adults with his sugary-sweet puppets with big brown eyes and cute voices? Is he desperately trying to hook the teenagers with ten seconds of token romance? "But it had good special effects", I hear you say. So what? I AM SICK AND TIRED OF SPECIAL EFFECTS MOVIES! Give me a plot. Give me interesting characters. Give me anything but the crutch of special effects. -Jack "I hated E.T. too" Applin {hplabs,nwuxd,hp-pcd,csu-cs}!hp-dcd!jack

Well, there may be justice in the world yet. David "I hated E.T. TOO!!" Whitney !ctvax!uokvax!uok!dwhitney

Here is yet another review of Gremlins: I saw gremlins last week, and and I enjoyed it immensely. It was flawed though. The very beginning, and the very end seemed tacked on and overly hokey. I've seen zillions of old campy and not so campy horror, science fiction and gross-out movies. Gremlins was filled with jokes and allusions to these movies. If you like the genre of cheap horror and sick humor then you will love gremlins. Of all the criticisms I disagree with, the one I disagree with most is that the horror and the humor don't flow well together. I thought that was the movies strongest point. In my mind, Spielberg did a fairly respectable job crossing alien, ET, the wizard of Oz, the blob, Texas Chainsaw massacres, its a wonderful life, star wars, and just about every other sick movie made, while still maintaining a high level of originality and surprise. Has anyone seen Conan the Destroyer?
