[comp.sys.apple] Recommendation for a serial printer/modem card

LLi.ESCP8@XEROX.COM (04/30/88)

I'm looking for a serial printer/modem card. The 3/88 A+ has a list of those.
I wonder which one has the best performance/cost ratio. Any recommendations?
Thanks in advance for your time.

I have an Applied Engineering Serial Pro that I'm using to drive me
ImageWriter //. In addition to being a super serial clone, it also has
a ProDOS compatible clock card (needs to have the driver installed, but
it's very easy to do; there's a utility that will install it on you disks).

The main reason I bought this was to get the clock (all my slots are full).

It also prints graphics to several printers, using Grappler style commands.
The only hires graphics command that doesn't seem to be implemented is the
double size option.

I'm happy enough with it, although it isn't a perfect SSC clone. Some programs
(only Print Shop and Dazzle Draw that I've run across; Triple Dump, Mouse Paint
and ImageWriter tool kit work fine) that print graphics require that you
turn off linefeeds using the control panel. This is very easy to do, but
can get to be a *pain* if you use PS or DD very much. I don't, so that
isn't much of a problem. As I said all programs I've tried except these
two work fine.

Of course, if you're going to be running a modem with it, this should
pose no problems ...
