[comp.sys.apple] New versions of prodos8 and prodos16!

DEFFER@CGEUGE51.BITNET (04/21/88)

I've just received a copy of Prodos 8 v1.5 and Prodos 16 v1.5 dated
8 january 1988.

Filesize is not the same for Prodos 16 v1.3 and Prodos 16 v1.5.

Did Apple ever release such a version ? (in which case they could've
at least posted an announcement to this list, hear that Claris ?)

I don't know if Apple ever released such a version of ProDOS 8 (I've never
heard of ProDOS 16 1.5 before)...But I've had ProDOS 8 1.5 for a long
time. Does yours say something about the Starship Enterprise instead of
Apple's copyright notice? I don't remember exactly what it said, but I
copied over it with ProDOS 1.4 a while ago because I realized it probably
wasn't a real release, but a sector-edited version of 1.4 or earlier.

Well, I'm not sure about ProDOS 16, but I have seen at least five different
fakes when it comes to ProDOS 8. The two easiest ways to test your version is
to see if the ProDOS 8 "Title Screen" has any lower-case, and if the "bye"
command uses something other than the "Enter name of next application, or
press return" message.

Most pirates (they are the ones that usually change them) don't like the
traditional UPPERCASE, and the all-too familar bye command.

True, Apple Computer Inc., could have decided to change, but I doubt it.

Post more info on your version of ProDOS 8 and 16 to comp.sys.apple, or
info-apple, or whatever you newsfeed is called.

	I'm pretty certain that ProDOS (8 & 16) v1.5 is still beta. 1.3 is
still the official version. The current system disk is v3.1.

I think that system v3.2 should be out before _too_ long, and it will
sport the official ProDOS v1.5 as well as tool enhancements. This is my
opinion & should not be taken as fact.

For ProDOS8, the current version is v. 1.4 . The software (on both 3.5 and
5.25 disks) and an update manual can be purchased from ADPA. The software
itself is now comming with current commercial ProDOS programs.
