UUCP: ...ihnp4!psuvax1!UCONNVM.BITNET!SEWALL University of Connecticut ----------------------------Original message---------------------------- I notice in the Mac Server that there are programs to break apart PIT and SIT files for Unix - has anyone ported these to the Apple II line so that WE can break apart Mac files which have fonts, etc in them? There is also a little ditty that turns a MacWrite document into a text file (with scribe or troff text formatting instructions). That would be a nice port as well, especially if it did something nice with MacPaint-ings like output them in some sort of text fashion (dont know if it does or not - am hoping to find out soon though!). Finally, there is a unix pgm to create BinHex text files from Mac binaries and to turn binaries into BinHex - know of anyone who has ported THAT to Apple II? Seems like porting utilities to manipulate Mac files would be a great opportunity for folks - cannot understand why they arent taking it.

Anyone else as confused as I am? 1) I didnt post that article that this one has in the references - Sewall's home system mailer has a unique view of how to forward mail to say the least :-). 2. The first message that I send sewall was that I found doc for Anix on Apple2-l, posted by patth, but no program - anyone know if that program is still available somewhere? 3. Lastly, the wishlist seems reasonable, but I doubt that anyone has the guption to fight APW C to do it - anyone want to write a good C compiler for the Apple II series, especially the IIgs <grin> -- Larry W. Sorry, but our mailer's forwarding not only isn't unique, it's rcf822 standard. It's also the most commonly used mailer on bitnet. What's maybe confusing is: 1) everyone on bitnet/arpa/milnet/edu/Janet etc. DID get the header identifying the message as "Resent-From: Larry Virden;" apparently only USENET got it without proper headers; what's "unique" (or at least not rcf822 standard) is the newslist's software's handling of resent headers (it ignored them and took the original "From:" - I suppose newslist doesn't recognize "Reply-to" or "Sender" either; probably programmed by the same person that writes mailer- daemons). 2) You posted your comment on Wednesday, but it didn't reach the Internet until Friday afternoon, and you didn't include any of the resent post in your message, soooo... I suspect INET subscribers are puzzled even more (especially since it was clear to them all along that I had passed along some comments you sent to me). --------------------- Disclaimer: The "look and feel" of this message is exclusively MINE!
