[comp.sys.apple] AE/Ramkeeper Comments

Dale,

About the DMA issue, what you have to realize is that what APPLE
did was to give out Pre-Release info for the //GS to all developers. From
what I know nothing was written in stone. If they made a mistake on the
paperwork thats besides the point. The POINT is that I bought a AE GSram
card for $170.-- (?)and now I have to pay AE another $48.-- to get it to
work right??? No Way!!! It's a little over there cost to fix it also?? I the
CUSTOMER should not be liable for AE's problem with Apple. Thats AE's problem.
What alot of people forget is that Apple also SELLS add on cards... I think
that Apple was nice enough to give them the specs in the first place. In any
case my GSram is/was probably incinerated by now as it went right into the
GARBAGE....

Ramkeeper:

Your right that if you have one Apple card that you do not need
the slot mover.. I gotta read closer next time.. BUT....In the March A+
the ad says ELECTRONIC HARD DISK...Not ROM...Also the ad states "Configure
Kilobytes or Megabytes of instant ROM storage".. Why do they [and Checkmate]
call it ROM?? I thought ROM meant "READ ONLY MEMORY".. Although I/we know what
they mean, what about the non-technical user.. Will he or she?? The reason I
bring this up is that I have a AST memory card.. Now I have ROMS on that, that
the smartport configures as Slot 2 drive 1. The Ramkeeper does this also.. It
would have been better if they just left it as BBU RAM (slot 5 dr 2) and let us
BOOT to that..As for the memory being LINEAR.. Page 3 states that if you put a
second card in THAT is a Apple Card, Multiram GS, OctoRam or Rampack 4GS THEN
it WILL BE NON-LINEAR.. Looks likThe ads have changed alot. re:June A+
is in fact true then state it!!!

I'm glad they'll be supporting DMA card of different types also. That as yet
to be announced card will probably be their DIGITIZER that was promised a long
time ago..

As for being sorry for taking up so much space, I'm really not. This is an
information net and I personally have been helped by many people on here.
[THANK YOU ALL] At times things are brought out not to HURT anyone/company
but it has to be said. It might help YOU sometime in the future. I still think
AE is a very good company and have some excellent products. They've really
grown tremendously over the past years because of that. I just think they NOW
have some of there priorities screwed up.
