[comp.sys.apple] BROWNVM down this weekend

SEWALL@UCONNVM.BITNET (Murph Sewall) (06/09/88)

BROWNVM will be down this weekend (June 10-12) while moving their host
into a new facility. That means, among other things that APPLE2-L
will be unavailable from Friday afternoon (or early evening) until
Monday morning. If you send commands by mail, they'll just wait until
service is restored but be aware that you may not get files until
Tuesday (there'll be a considerable file backlog Monday and bitnet
processes smallest files first).

The other noticeable effect will be that many addresses normally reached
through mitvma.mit.edu will be unreachable by that gateway from Friday
to Monday. More or less anything West and South of Rhode Island (like
Connecticut for instance) has BROWNVM between themselves and MITVMA
while the opposite is true for North and East (like for instance, HARVARDA,
HUSC6 <also Harvard>, WPI, and UNHH).

You should be able to send mail to UCONNVM, YALEVM, TRINITY, HARTFORD,
and other sites in Connecticut that normally are addressed via mitvma
through cunyvm.cuny.edu (as in dickson%hartford.bitnet@cunyvm.cuny.edu).
Cunyvm is the busiest of bitnet's regional gateways and sometimes backs
up mail, so (especially if you're on the West Coast) an alternative
would be jade.berkeley.edu (as in stein%uconnvm.bitnet@jade.berkeley.edu).

Of course if you want to send mail to WPI, then you MUST use mitvma
(as in tmurphy%wpi.bitnet@mitvma.mit.edu).

BITNET readers of info-apple should note that for the past several weeks,
info-apple has been delivered to bitnet via mitvma through brownvm to
ndsuvm1. If cuny or berkeley can't handle the mail, then expect nothing
from INFO-APP over the weekend. If you happen to be to the North or East
of BROWNVM (WPI, UNHH, HARVARD, etc.) then you WON'T be able to receive
INFO-APP over the weekend even if delivers are made to the rest of the
country.

Got it? There'll be a pop quiz tommorow :-)
