[net.movies] new movie/Pope of Greenwich Village

I was really looking forward to seeing this, being a fan of both Mickey
Rourke (Diner, Body Heat) and Eric Roberts (Star-80), and boy was I
disappointed.

The reviews I had heard/read described feelings and motivations in the
characters that I just couldn't find. I did, however, find the film to
be rather boring for intermittent periods (kind of like scattered showers).
Most of the 'tension' that was trying to be built up just didn't build.

Rourke and Roberts were quite good together--but I really didn't like the
characters they were portraying. Maybe the fact that I disliked them so
much is a plus for their acting?

Daryll Hannah (sans tail) is in and out of this film in a role that had
no character to speak of.

The ending was also something of a disappointment to me--it's as if it
was being left open for 'The Pope of Greenwich Village Part 2.'

I paid $0.00 to see this (through the graces of a good friend who manages
a local theater), and felt that the time I invested was somewhat wasted.
