To all you people who have had hardware problems: I'm trying to get some idea of the prices for replacement //e parts. Just the parts themselves- not the labor also. Specifically, I *really* need the price for a new //e motherboard. And, from the mother board- how much does a new 65C02 chip cost? Memory chips? MMU?, etc? I'm also thinking of getting a new printer head for my Epson LX-80. Anyone know how much one of these will run? It seems the bottom three pins on mine went bad. They print lighter than the top pins. I thought that maybe the head was out of alignment (not parallel to the platen) and so I took the head off to take a look at it. It turns out the pins themselves are bad- the bottom three are a dark grey color while the top ones are still a nice silver. A nice soak&clean in alchohol didn't help, either. Anyone know what's wrong? Are they perhaps burnt or something? Oh, and for anyone interested in why I'm looking for a new motherboard- it seems mine was sabotaged. Somebody dumped beer inside it at a party. It was covered with 3 blankets but the guy got curious, I guess, and took a peek under them. He saw the open case (I keep the lid off because of the heat) and decided my motherboard needed a bath. What an A__hole! Luckily, I got someone to turn him in but I'm still tryin to assess the damage and figure out just what is ruined. Oh well, the worlds an evil place and ya can't do anything about it, I guess.

A. Motherboard components An Apple //e upgrade kit can be bought by mail for about $50. It contains a 65C02, a video chip, and two others. It's easy to install yourself. B. Motherboard About two years ago, I had to have a mother board replaced in a IIe. Cost was about $120. ****DISCLAMER: My comments, etc., are my own shakey opinions ******** | Bruce P.
