[comp.sys.apple] Help! "ERH-4 460K drive"

mackay@iisat.UUCP (Danial MacKay) (07/07/88)

Hello!

A friend just got back from West Germany, where he was doing his thesis, and
brought his disks with the thesis on them back with him. He called up to
find out if I could transfer them to the Mac he currently have, and I
naturally said, "no problem".

Now the files were created on the //e computer. No problem.
The disks are CP/M disks. Wordstar. No problem. I've got Chameleon and
a CP/M card in my //c.
The disks are for "460K ERH-4" disk drives, not Apple 144K drives. Whoa.

The disks have "640K" handwritten on them, although when I got my friend to
call the lab in Germany, they told him the make of drive and that it was
"460K" so it's hard to tell.

Of course, my Apple drives won't even look at the disks. Matter of fact,
they put the Apple // System Utilities disk into a permanent and ugly
thrash mode when I get it to "Identify and Catalog" them. My questions are:

Has anyone heard of such a drive?
Does anyone have such a drive?
Does anyone know who manufactured such a drive, so I can find out who might
have one?

Help! We've got a weird one here, kids! Any help would be appreciated.

these disks are 640KB (2*80 tracks) and really nice !
they are to be used with the 'erphi' controller and modified
teac drives (or other normal 160 track drives. the mod is a simple
condensator). i have such thing and it is the best thing that happened
to me before i bought a hard disk ...
feel free to email me if u have any further questions.
