[comp.sys.apple] overheated computers and airflow

Try connecting your fan to PULL air through the chassis rather than blow
across it. I couldn't afford $50-70 for a System Saver for my IIe, but
I found a muffin fan or something like at a job-lot store, and stuck it
onto the left-side vent with duct tape, covering up all the slits on
that side except the ones feeding into the fan. I cut up a sponge for
vibration padding. My IIe works fine and runs cool now, and my Duo-Disk
has stopped crapping out on me.

Pulling the air through is a lot safer than pushing and possibly more
efficient. If anything goes wrong in the fan itself, you'd rather have
grit, metal slivers, sparks, or flames being blown OUT of the chassis
than INTO it, wouldn't you?
