I wanted to do an update on my Zipchip. After using for just over a week I started getting strange results and crashes at random times. I was extremely disappointed, thinking that this showed a design problem. Them the chip went clear out. I examined it and found 3 legs with burn marks on them. I felt that this was good news, as it meant that I had a bad chip and not a problem with th e product in general. I sent the old chip back without calling first for confir mation, etc, and recieved a replacement in exactly one week. I'm very impressed with the chip and will recommend it to anyone. It's a little like getting a new modem. 1200 baud seemed to fly and I couldn't see how 2400 baud would improve things all that much, but after using one I can't go back. The zipchip makes large files like Netmonth behave like memos in Appleworks. I autoload all my applications, etc into /RAM on startup. Accessing files in /RAM is 3 to 4 times as fast as without. I've even configured it so that I can play play MOVIE MONSTER at a brisk pace but without distorting the music. Between the zipchip, Davex, and a meg of memory the old //c's got quite a few more years in her.
