[comp.sys.apple] BinHex 4.0

A1T@ECL.PSU.EDU (Andy) (07/28/88)

What is BinHex 4.0, and where can I get it?
 I got the VIRUSREM PACKAGE
from listserv@scfvm, since there is this wonderful little apple virus going
around, and according to the directory file, a lot of the files in it
are for apples. Since all the files have a line at the beginning saying
"BinHex 4.0 must be used on this file" or something like that, I assume
such a program runs on an Apple. True?? If it's a mainframe program, I
have access to unix, VMS, and VM/CMS.

A MACINTOSH program "hexifies" Macintosh binary files so they can be
transmitted over EBCDIC<--->ASCII networks.

For APPLE 2's or for Macintoshes (also Apples -- these days Mac users seem
to expect "Apple" to mean Macintosh)?

Binhex 4.0 is, I believe, a Mac program that serves the same purpose for
Mac files that Binary II serves for Apple II files.
