[comp.sys.apple] drive problems

urt@NAV.ICST.NBS.GOV (Allen Wilkinson) (07/06/88)

Can anyone help me? I have a IIe with a dou-disk drive. For some
strange reason my drive will not run some store bought software
that runs on other IIe's. Some of the software used to run on my
computer but has stopped. The symptoms are drive activates and
"growns" like it always does but then it continues to spin non-stop
until I stop it. The programs that have been noticed to have problems
so far are; Adventure Construction Set, Ultima III, and Ultima IV.
All other software works fine. So what is wrong.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance,

It sounds like the drive speed of your disk drives need to be djusted. Get
Copy II Plus or some utility program which has a utility to check your drive
speed. If you cannot boot it, you'llhave to take the drive to your dealer to
have him adjust it.

To adjust the drive speed you need to adjust the small screw on the underneath
of your drive. Do this *while* you are running a speed check. The drive speed
should be as near to 200 ms as possible. You will need to set the duodrive on
it's end to do this--this will not cause any problems.

Sorry I had to send this out to everyone but my system is having
problems sending mail to most places. Fortunately not to INFO-
APPLE.

Hi Sean,

Thanks for the info on my drive problem. I have an analog card
# 676-[]101. I'm not sure I understand what you said about how to
fix it. Should I replace those two capacitors OR just remove
them. And is that all I do?

Thanks again,
