[comp.sys.apple] Spartan C=64/Apple ][+

hjespers@attcan.UUCP (Hans Jespersen) (08/22/88)

I have resently purchased (for $50) a Spartan for my Commodore 64.
The Spartan is an apple ][+ clone and lets my use my C64 keyboard,
monitor, and 1541 disk drive as Apple peripherals. I can concurrently
execute C64 and Apple programs, and toggle between them. I am interested
in hearing from anyone you has used this device. What are its capabilities,
how compatible is it (hardware/software). The Spartan I purchased was
without the card required to modify my disk drive to read apple diskettes.
Aparantly it eventually ruined your 1541 and thus the product was discontinued
(thats why it was $50 BRAND NEW). I have tried a friend's disk and controller
and it works fine. Same with an 80 column card, but I couldn't get a CPM
card to work. The Spartan powers the 64 thru the cassette port, is it
possible to write programs that communicate thru this port? (ie. turn
this baby into a parrallel processing machine???). Any feedback would be
appreciated.
