Well folks, I always hate to be a party pooper, lest it spoil someones day, but after a gaze into my crystal ball, I guess I have some bad news to deliver.. There will NOT be a GS+, or any new GS for that matter introduced at Applefest this year.. In fact, as I see it, the entire GS+ story was a fable as the unit does not seem to exist at this time.. I do NOT expect to see any new CPU at Applefest other than a spiced up //c that remains 8 bit, but that is more of an upgrade than a new CPU. A little faster, and a smaller disk drive, that's about it.. I guess that when Sculley said no new CPU'S this year, he meant the entire year, not the fiscal year as many had hoped.. One bit on the brighter side, keep an eye out for HYPER-STUDIO. It will be the GS version of Hyper-card, and while it will not work with Mac stacks, it will allow sound storage in the stacks.. While it will be demoed at 'fest, I do not expect to see finished product available until later this year.. It must be quite good though, as it has Roger Wagner walking around looking like a proud new father.. Didnt we talk about this before... HyperStudio, according to discussions with Roger and others, appears to be a hyper media product. It is NOT HyperCard. That is, you can import Appleworks and a few other text file types, you can do a lot of things with graphics screens, but there is no hyper talk language (at least not supposedly at first), and I dont know even when its scripting language compiler does come available if it will be able to access external functions, etc. (ie I mean that I dont know if that has been decided). I have heard a LOT of good things about this product. And since the Apple port of HyperCard is coming along slowly, and might not EVER reach the light of day (see Apple's MacBasic for an example of THAT) folks shouldnt shy away from HS just because it isnt HC compatible. Estimated list price is n the low $100-$150 range the last I heard. -- Larry W.
