In order that people in our Apple User's group here in Tallahassee move into the 20th century, we have decided to look into making a mass purchase of 800k 3.5 inch disk drives (and controller cards). I am looking for information on 2 fronts. 1) Which drives/controllers are the 'most compatible' with the entire ][ series (+,e,gs-can it be daisy chained with other drives). For example the Central Point Laser 3.5 drive is said to be totally compatible. Are there any drive/controller combinations to avoid because of compatibility problems or hardware reliability problems? 2) Prices- hey the bottom line. Are there any recommended stores/mail-order houses where the prices are better ? What are the going prices for 3.5 drives/controller boards ? We are talking of ordering 10 (possibly more) drives. Any hints/comments/suggestions on selecting and ordering these items will surely be welcome with open arms. Thanks for your time. I will post the results if I get sufficient response. -- David M. Be very wary of CPS drives... they require a card, which makes them unusable on a //c (at least the one I tried it on) and a real pain on a //gs (some software, like Diversi-Cache, Alien Mind, and some versions of Shanghai expect to use the extend //gs smartport calls from slot 5). Caveat emptor. -- fadden@zen.berkeley.edu [crashed] c60c-3aw@widow.berkeley.edu (Andy McFadden)
